What Are Ellagatannins?

How do they work?

Ellagatannins are large flat molecules found in the fruit and seeds of many fruits. When eaten, the ellagatannins are changed by stomach acids into ellagic acid. Ellagic acid works in many ways:

As an anti-oxidant, it neutralizes cell damaging free radicals.

It protects the p53 gene. Most cancers are caused by damage to this gene.

It protects DNA from the mutations that cause cancer

It inhibits the viral enzyme integrase

It inhibits the bacterial enzyme gyrase.
