How Does the p53 gene work?

Although the exact mechanism behind the process by which ellagic acid induces apoptosis:

There exists on the surface of our cells certain receptors know as FAS. When these receptors are stimulated by certain proteins produced by the p53 gene a cascade of enzymes, the caspace enzyme system, is released which then automatically digests the cell. It is possible that ellagic acid stimulates this FAS receptor causing the cascade of enzymes to be released. There are other receptors for p53 and other gene proteins that stimulate the enzyme release and ellagic acid may be working on these sites.
